A Cappella · SLIXS

SLIXS, formerly known as Stouxingers, is a German a cappella ensemble that performs using the human voice alone. Featuring a distinctive lineup of one female and five male vocalists, the group unleashes an explosive sonic energy—imitating trumpets, jazz drums, percussion, and a wide spectrum of environmental sound effects. Their limitless vocal techniques, coupled with a performance style that defies precise classification, shape the unmistakable allure of SLIXS.

Because of their originality and artistic boldness, SLIXS holds a prominent place in Germany’s—and indeed Europe’s—vocal music scene. They have been recognized as one of the country’s finest and most compelling vocal ensembles, and their albums have won prestigious jazz awards. In 2010, they expanded their artistic scope into a new field by recording soundtracks for theatrical films.

SLIXS has completely overturned conventional perceptions of a cappella. Fearlessly blending pop and jazz, classical and world music, they have captivated audiences across Europe and Asia. By exploring the full expressive potential of the human voice, they transport listeners into a universe of timbres, soundscapes, vocals, and percussive textures. Audiences marvel at their creativity and savor the group’s refined rhythmic instinct.

The six vocal artists have forged a sonic identity so distinctive that even masters of a cappella are left astonished. Ward Swingle, founder of the legendary Swingle Singers, once praised them as “utterly unique.” Gabriel Crouch of The King’s Singers called SLIXS “the best group I’ve ever heard.” Ten-time Grammy-winning vocalist Bobby McFerrin, before touring Europe with them, remarked: “I’ve never heard such fascinating tunes.”

“…a cosmic sound endowed with human expressivity—something that would astound even visitors from another world…” wrote German musicologist and critic Attila Csampai in the classical and jazz magazine Rondo.

Their widespread international acclaim has secured SLIXS a place among the world’s finest vocal ensembles. Their artistic courage and relentless pursuit of innovation have earned them top-tier global awards, including the 2008 Best Jazz Song, the 2013 Best Folk/World Music Song, the 2019 and 2023 Best Classical Song, and the 2023 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award (CARA) for Best Classical Album. As early as 2006, they won the Audience Prize twice at the International A Cappella Competition in Graz, Austria—and they have continued touring with the same lineup ever since.
