Xuanhan Xu started learning to play the piano at the age of five and the cello at the age of eight. At the age of nine, she was enrolled by the primary music school attached to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where she was studying the cello under professor Jiwu Li. At the age of eleven, Xuanhan Xu continued to study cello playing under Mr LiWei Qin, who is the Professor in the String Department of SCM. At the age of thirteen, Xuanhan Xu was enrolled into the prodigy class of University of Music Saarland in Germany, where she studied under professor Gustav Rivinius.
She has won the 5th David Popper International Cello Competition in Hungary at the age of nine and at the same time got selected to be one of the concert artists by Shanghai Spring Art Festival for Promising Future Artists program for the 31st Shanghai Spring Art Festival. At the age of ten, Xuanhan Xu gave her recital at Hangzhou Grand Theater, playing the cello concerto in C major by Joseph Haydn with Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra. At the age of eleven, she starts to get invited by many Symphony Orchestra in China in their music season every year, the Sichuan Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra, Harbin Symphony Orchestra, Kunming Nie Er Symphony Orchestra and many other successful corporations.
In 2017, Xuanhan Xu was invited to play the cello concerto in d minor by Edward Lalo with Madame Zheng Xiao Ying conducting the NCPA Orchestra in Beijing. Xuanhan Xu was the youngest cellist ever to perform in a concert at NCPA. Two years later, Xuanhan Xu and conductor Zhang Yi together boarded the stage of the National Centre for the Performing Arts with the Central Ballet Symphony Orchestra. This year, she was invited to perform at the Suntory Hall in Tokyo. She has been selected to German Broadcasting Corporation full live concert twice, also got invited at the famous German music festival Kammerkonzert Festival and performed a solo concert. She is also the only top scholarship recipient at the Radolfzell International Music Festival and Summer Music Academy in Germany.
Xuanhan Xu has received guidance from many cello performers in many international cello masterclasses, including Arto Noras, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Philippe Muller, Danjulo Ishizaka, Richard Aaron, and Wen-Sinn Yang etc.
